     2.1        Core Storage Requirements

  • Must support up to 255 snapshots per volume with no noticeable degradation in performance.
  • Must be upgradable for higher performance and capacity with no data movement or migration required.
  • Must simultaneously support SAN (FC, FCoE and iSCSI) connectivity.
  • Must simultaneously support multiple disk technologies (SSD/FC/SATA/SAS).
  • At basic must support raid 5, 6 and 10 to guard against double disk drive failures, with no application performance degradation.
  • Must be able to support both thin provisioning and the ability to grow and shrink volumes without requiring storage or application downtime to rebuild RAID groups.
  • Must support backup/restore of data volumes/LUNs in less than 10 seconds, regardless of size.
  • Backups must not affect performance.
  • Must support block-level incremental replication of data over TCP/IP for backup and/or DR.
  • Must be able to clone data rapidly while minimizing physical storage space consumption without using additional space upon creation of the clone; only changes to the clone’s data should take up space.
  • Must support the backup of virtual machines without streaming data or the use of VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB).
  • Support server virtualization products such as VMware in a multiprotocol fashion (that is, over NFS, iSCSI, and FCP) by a single storage product.
  • The core storage must be upgradable from the initial capacity to at least 70TB usable without requiring data migration or a change of operating system.

     2.2       DR Replication Requirements

  • The system must support block-level incremental data replication over TCP/IP in support of backups and/or disaster recovery.
  • The solution must support volume-level copying and mirroring within the same array, including the ability to easily and no disruptively attach mirrored copies to any connected host.
  • The solution must support scheduling of replication. The user must be able to create replication schedules that allow different sets to be replicated at different intervals.

3. STORAGE FABRIC REQUIREMENTS.

Preferred storage connectivity medium is fibre channel switches due to its high performance and stability. Our preferred vendor is Brocade and the preferred model is 6510. There will be two (2) Switches in the production environment and Two (2) at the DR site. The switches should come with licenses for 24 ports per switch.The hardware specifications for the brocade switches are as follows;

  • Dual hot-swappable redundant power supplies
  • Up to 48 SFP/SFP+ ports
  • 1RU fixed form-factor switch
  • 4/8/16 Gbps auto-sensing, full-duplex (16 Gb FC SFP+ transceivers)

4. VIRTUALISATION TECHNOLOGY

NICO Technologies is moving towards server virtualisation in view of achieving smaller data centres that not only will consume less power but provide scalability in infrastructure resource management and provisioning.  The choice of Hypervisor is VMware with standard licensing including vCentre for the central management of the systems. Oracle VM will only be used for servers that are running Oracle Databases.

     4.1       Licensing

The proposed virtualization solution must be licensed as per the requested number and configuration of servers keenly taking note of requested physical processors and memory. The license should be for the standard version of the virtualisation software.

     4.2        Warranty

All virtualisation software must carry a minimum warranty of three (3) years.

5. TAPE BACKUP AND DATA REPLICATION

To ensure data backup and restoration the solution should backup to disk and then to tape. It should also be able to perform data backup at the DR site with a maximum of 5 minutes lag on replication.

     5.1        Backup and Replication Software

Veeam backup or VMware SRM with the licensing that meets the solution requirement.

     5.2       Tape Library device

The preferred Tape library should be IBM TS3200. One tape library per site with a total of 50 tapes, LTO 7 and above.

6. NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE

NICO Tech preferred network infrastructure vender is CISCO. There will be Firewalls, Routers and Switches to be installed both at production site and DR site.

Below are the specifications for the network devices
